Gym
I find it hard to get motivated to go to the gym. I first joined one with my friend Martin, when we were at University – and I think we went about 5 times in the year, which worked out to almost £100 per session…
When I worked at Barclays Bank PLC in Northampton, there was a gym right next to the office. This was great because at one point, 2-3 of us used to go to the gym most lunchtimes for a quick gym session, followed by a quick swim. This was great because some healthy competition spurred us all on to do well.
Whilst working for Deloitte LLP in Milton Keynes, I went to the gym on and off, after work; but with the lack of gym buddies, it wasn’t as fun.
Now I work as a consultant for Capgemini, I am not in a regular routine in terms of working location, so it is even harder to stay motivated. Plus my lifestyle has changed a lot, so I have more family commitments and less free time to go to the gym for 1.5 hours each night.
Any tips for keeping motivated? In the past I have entered events, as well as done a lot of social sport (rock climbing, mountain biking, snowboarding, jogging, etc,), which meant that I was motivated to go to the gym, in order to stay fit for these sports, but right now, I only have the gym (Virgin Active in Milton Keynes) to ‘look forward’ to, as I no longer have a group of sports-mad friends around me.
